One of the great rock n roll stories is about Tommy James

In summer 1969 he was playing some shows in Hawaii and planning a vacation there afterward. His agent called and said some farmer from New York wants you to play in his field, don't know if you want to fly back here for that but the money they're offering is pretty good. Of course he blew it off, and weeks later found out he had passed on Woodstock. He said in interviews "that was literally how it was presented to us - some farmer in NY wants you to play in his field."
